Description
A beautifully aromatic white that immediately captivates the senses, Jean Claude Mas Mon Gewürztraminer is all about expressive character and easy enjoyment. In the glass, it shows a bright gold hue with delicate green reflections. The nose is wonderfully fragrant, bursting with notes of rose petals, lychee, and citrus, alongside ripe stone fruits. On the palate, it is fresh, rounded, and long-lasting, offering a smooth, moreish finish that makes it just as enjoyable on its own as it is with food.
History and Winemaking
The Mas family has been rooted in winemaking in the South of France for over a century, with Jean Claude Mas continuing the legacy with passion and innovation. Known for his “humble” approach and global outlook, he crafts wines that combine traditional French techniques with a modern, fruit-forward style.
This Gewurztraminer is produced in the IGP Pays d’Oc, where the warm Mediterranean climate allows for full aromatic development. After destemming, the grapes are gently pressed under inert gas, using only the finest juice. Fermentation takes place at a controlled 16°C over 15 days to preserve the grape’s vibrant aromatics. The wine is then aged on its lees for three months in stainless steel tanks, adding texture, complexity, and depth.
Tasting Notes
Bright gold in colour with subtle green hints. Intensely aromatic, with floral notes of rose complemented by citrus and juicy stone fruits. The palate is fresh, smooth, and expressive, with a long, elegant finish.
Pairings
This Gewurztraminer is a fantastic partner for a cheese board, especially with washed-rind cheeses like Taleggio or Stinking Bishop, as well as creamy Brie or Camembert. It also pairs beautifully with lightly spiced dishes, Asian cuisine, pâté, or fruit-based desserts. Equally enjoyable as an aperitif.
